My last 4 blood donations were rather uneventful... in a good way. I am getting used to the procedure and I'm generally quite relaxed throughout the whole thing. The staff at the hospital are great and help me keep my mind occupied.
After 6 weeks and 3 litres of blood, my first schedule of venesections is complete.
So, my next step was to get another blood test to measure my iron levels once again. This will see how successful the treatments have been, and allow my doctor to determine the "how many and how often" for my next round. I'll remind you all that this is an ongoing condition. The frequency of blood letting may vary throughout my life, but it is something I will be doing for the rest of my life. However, I'm still very thankful that it is so easily treatable and not likely to impact my health in any way, provided it is monitored and kept under control.
Well, good news everyone!
My results show that my ferritin levels have fallen by a long way - going from around 1300 down to under 500. It is still higher than the preferred level of 50-100, but I'm well on the way, and importantly, out of the danger zone.
